The Arizona School Boards Association Annual Membership Meeting was called to order Thursday by President Randy Schiller of Phoenix Union. Sixty-nine delegates were present and certified by Luis Marquez and Deanna Beaver, co-chairs of the Credentials Committee.
Michael Hughes, ASBA immediate past-president, provided delegates with the nominating committee report. The slate of candidates brought forward were Jesus Rubalcava, Gila Bend Unified, president-elect; Kathy Knecht, Peoria Unified, treasurer; and Julie Bacon, Paradise Valley Unified, secretary. After a short statement from each of the candidates the delegates unanimously voted to elect all to serve as officers on the organization’s board of directors for 2014.
Following the election, Schiller discussed proposed bylaw amendments, which included Article IV - Membership and Article V - Officers and Board of Directors and Executive Committee. The Officer and Board of Director and Executive Committee bylaw was voted on and approved, but the Membership bylaw was tabled.
ASBA Executive Director Dr. Tim Ogle provided the treasurer’s report on behalf of the Finance Committee. Members can review financials on pages 4 and 5 of the Annual Report.
During his report, Dr. Ogle noted how exciting the year has been both personally and professionally. He pointed out there was much to be proud of, but only highlighted three areas of the organization’s strategic plan: program development, new positions and conferences. Looking forward, Dr. Ogle will continue looking for ways to influence and create awareness of ASBA across the state.
